About Equality Foundation

Equality Foundation is dedicated to arresting the global digital divide. We work through direct local partners promoting digital literacy and online education. We believe in shared Responsibilities that all of us are part of society and we should contribute little to uplift society. Our focus in knowledge and technologies transfer through directly e-learning (digitally) or through mentorship programs for global exposure.
We use vehicles like “university advisors” to scale up university professors, High School Mentors to scale up high schools’ teachers, Guest Ambassadors to scale up high school students; Tech Gurus to train in various applications and Subject Matter Experts to mentors in workshops:

Donald Sternoff Beyer Jr. is an American businessman, diplomat and politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Virginia’s 8th congressional district since 2015. A member of the Democratic Party, his district is in the heart of Northern Virginia and includes Alexandria, Falls Church and Arlington.  He has been the Patron of Equality Foundation from its inception and big supporter & vocal of Digital Literacy and Online Education.

History of Equality Foundation

Equality Foundation evolved through a serious community works of many distinguished individuals. Prof. Medani Adhikari envisioned making his very own high school a model school in Nepal in 2009. He raised some funds and mostly gave his own funds to Jawalkhel Rotary Club in order to initiate matching grant funds. Then Dr. Mahabir Pun and Prof. Madhukar SJB Rana gladly initiated a matching grant from Rotary International. Later Corning Rotary Club from New York sponsored the project and Singh Devi was able to obtained the matching grant with the help of Dr. Hari Sharma. 19 computers, one decent library, and science lab and Internet connection was provided.

IT Convention -June 12, 2012 @ Damak Jhapa

In order to expand the scope and accessibilities of Internet and computers in public schools, Prof. Adhikari organized and chaired IT convention.

The purpose of the convention was to provide easy access of ICT into public schools. It was inaugurated by then Education Minister of Nepal-Honorable Dinanath Sharma, key note addressed by Dr. Mahabir pun. The program was addressed many community and education leaders including former finance minister Prof. Madhukar SJS Rana and National Planning Commission Member Dr. Shiva Kumar Rai. Most of the high school head masters and school management chairmen from the surroundings attended and participated in the discussion. Then education minister Mr. Dinanath Sharma inaugurated meeting and vowed to work in this matter. Dr. Mahabir Pun, Prof. Madhukar SJB Rana and then National Planning Commission member Dr. Shiva Kumar Rai delivered impressive speech as to how we could move forward by making that initiative more accessible to under privileged students.Most of the high school head masters and school management chairmen from the surroundings attended and participated in the discussion. Then education minister Mr. Dinanath Sharma inaugurated meeting and vowed to work in this matter. Dr. Mahabir Pun, Prof. Madhukar SJB Rana and then National Planning Commission member Dr. Shiva Kumar Rai delivered impressive speech as to how we could move forward by making that initiative more accessible to under privileged students.

Dr. Pun was doing additional work by making smart villages and envisioned establishing a “National Innovation Center”. The team under his leadership has created more than 200 smart villages in Nepal.

 Many people from the Diaspora including Prof. Medini Adhikari form USA and assisted, raised funds and worked side by side for his efforts. His efforts derived the demand and importance of digital transaction and Internet Connectivity.. One will find wireless Internet in mountains’ tops and along the trekking routes in Nepal due to his visionary works. Mahabir Pun first dreamed of connecting his village of Nangi to the internet in 1997, and has been working ever since to bring the internet to rural Nepal. Mahabir was born in Nangi, and completed his primary education there. After working as a teacher for several years, he completed a master’s degree in education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Congressman Don Beyer officially inaugurated the Equality Foundation on August 13, 2015 in Fairfax, VA.

Many community leaders and who is who participated the Launching Ceremony enthusiastically. Not only Congressman Beyer inaugurated the function, he was so convinced with the vision of the Foundation that he accepted our request to be the Patron of the organization. He has been our Patron ever since.

First Integrity Idol Gyanmani Nepal was great job as the Chief District officer in Patchthar during 2016/2017. His was able to achieve 100% literacy with his passionate efforts. We were to able to launch and modernized several schools with direct matching grants efforts.

In June of 2012, an IT convention was held under the chairmanship of Prof. Adhikari in Damdak, Jhapa in order to start a grass root movement for easily accessible Internet and computers in public schools by using his own funds. Most of the high school head masters and school management chairmen from the surroundings attended and participated in the discussion. Then education minister Mr. Dinanath Sharma inaugurated meeting and vowed to work in this matter. Dr. Mahabir Pun, Prof. Madhukar SJB Rana and then National Planning Commission member Dr. Shiva Kumar Rai delivered impressive speech as to how we could move forward by making that initiative more accessible to under privileged students.

After that Prof. Adhikari waged a conversation with his friends, students and colleagues that we must close the gap of global digital divide as much as possible. Then Dr. Bishnu Poudel, Mr. Guy Hinkle, Dr. Hari Sharma, Dr. Kunjar Sharma, Mr. Anil Pathak and Mr. Niranjan Regmi started exploring the possibilities. One fine day in summer of 2014, the group decided to create a vehicle to take it to next level by institutionalizing all efforts.

In the mean time, Gyanmani Nepal (District Education Officer) was doing fantastic job in Pachthar by enhancing the educational methods, techniques and system. He was awarded Integrity Idol among all government servicemen of Nepal last year for his exemplary work.
